![]() If I wanted the utility I would just use the paladin. If I wanted the mobility I would take any of the previously mentioned mediums or heavies. If I wanted the Raven's burst dps I would rather have Executioner. The Enforcer isn't terrible, but it is 100% outclassed by the Exe. There is a reason that the Executioner is picked over Enforcer. The point is that they are overshadowed by medium attack ships that can have the same benefits as light ships, but also have other uses as well. TL DR: Small ships are almost entirely used in supporting roles in reality. maybe a ship with some kind of ability to allow other ships to use it's targeting values in some way, boosting the range of allied weapons, acting as a refueling point for allied singleships or somehow acting as a way-point for missiles allowing them to refresh their range and change direction. not sure if this is even something that could be translated as sensor range isn't so large a part of the game that you would want a ship that revolves entirely around it. ![]() Outermost- Picket: scouting ships designed to detect threats early on so that the fleet can adjust their tactics. this would obviously translate to something like making the pioneer a light or swapping it's abilities with a light craft's. currently the plasma field on the paladin is probably the best example of how something like this might workĬenter Layer- ASW (anti-submarine): used to prevent enemy stealth craft from penetrating into the main body of your fleet. ![]() this could translate to FS in the form of light ships intended to shut down enemy drones, singleships and missles. Innermost- AAW(anti-aircraft): used to defend against enemy planes and missiles. There appears to be three primary roles for them depending on how far they are deployed from the ship they are protecting: Flak turret design by Timothy Zanconato, Railgun & Stone Cracker design by myself.ĭisclaimer: This site is heavily under progress atm.It seems light ships actually take a primarily defensive role in naval warfare.
